Cheerleading  Squad  Tryout  Tips
Number 1
Smile just as if making the squad depended on it, because it does.  If you can be sure of getting a deduction for anything, it will be because you did not smile.  The judges are looking for it, and they will certainly count off for it if they do not see it.

Number 2
Yell, just as if making the squad depended on it, because it does.  Focus, above all else on making your voice project.  Bring the sound up from the diaphragm giving it volume and force.  A lot of those trying out yell from the throat and this makes the voice sounds strained and high pitched, which the judges do not like.

Number 3
Try to make your entrance as good as you can do it.  This should be your best effort.  Many times those trying out for the first time will win or lose their spot on the squad during their entrance.  Make a good first impression and the judges will respond with better scores.

Number 4
Try to do at least two different jumps but do them as well as you can.  Jumps are like everything else, it is not how many of them you do, but rather how well you do them.  Good form and proper technique will always get you a better score.

Number 5
If you do any tumbling try to keep it simple.  Here again, it is not how much you do but how well you do it.  A well done roundoff can get you a better score than a poorly done back handspring.  Always strive for quality in what you show the judges.

Number 6
Try to approach your tryouts with a positive, enthusiastic attitude.  If you get mad and act like you did not like your performance, then you cannot expect the judges to like it.  Good or bad, smile and act like you were well pleased with what you did.
